Coming up this next week at the start of August, 2022, the classic car event here in the Northern Nevada Area starts up for it’s 35th Year Anniversary. This large event started in 1986 as just small gathering of Local Car and old time rock n’ roll enthusiasts , up at the University of Nevada Reno Parking lot near Lawlor Event Center with a big BBQ Tent called “Hamburger Haven” and then had a few organized cruises up and down Virginia Street. The “Event” would basically be a Friday night, with some show events on Saturday and end up with a Parade through downtown under the iconic Reno Arch on Sunday morning.
Also, the old A & W on Kietzke Lane was a traditional old time drive-inn and hosted all night shows and cruisin’ in the style of “American Grafitti” ’till the sun came up, more or less… Hot August Nights has now grown to a 10 day event with a Show and Cruise in Virginia City starting the weekend before and many of the larger Casinos , such as the Peppermill, Atlantis, Nugget and Grand Sierra all hosting Show and Shines throughout Reno and Sparks for the 1st week in August.
We have been participating in Hot August Nights for over 30 Years with many different cars, starting with the 1965 Mustang GT Coupe that I brought up this way from the San Diego California area when my family and I moved to Reno in late 1990. We are registered this year again for the ’22 Event with the Fox Bodied Race Ford Mustang we have and are planning to go to a couple of the shows. Generally hang out at the Peppermill and the Atlantis Casinos and probably just cruise through this year a few times…
Here are some photos from some of the events over the last few years and I will also see if I can dig out some from even 20-25 Years ago.
Thanks for stopping by and as always…….TACH IT UP…..!!!

Unfortunately I was not able to get out very much to HAN this last week. I have been having some health issues lately and they continue to persist some. I did get out for a bit on the Tuesday late afternoon for about 2 hours with the Mustang, but needed to leave pretty abruptly, and then just got out on Saturday early evening to say Hi to some folks in “our group” bu didn’t even get any pictures for this event. It was very crowded for the Saturday night at the Atlantis so even though there were some rainy afternoons and nights that put a “damper” on things, it certainly appeared to be a successful event this year for the HAN crew…
