Like many of us Race “Motorheads”, I have a number of models, die-cast kits and lots of other memoribilia from many many years of collecting and being in the game, so to speak. One of my sons has always been into LEGO Kits from an early age, and a year or so ago showed me some new type kits that really do a great job of replicating both modern and some vintage race cars. At the time, I did not realize that LEGO was doing these type of kits and was amazed at the detail they built into these differing scale models. The first one that my son got me for a Christmas present was an early 70’s Porsche 911 Turbo, that comes molded with a body color in white, so it looks very close to a Porsche that we had when both of my son’s were younger and that we ran in some events back in the day. That kit had 180 LEGO pieces and turned out nice. Since getting that first kit I have also built a Mini Copper and a Ferrari 488 from LEGO.
Recently, my wife and I were at one of our favorite places, a Barnes/Noble book store, just poking around and I saw that in their toy section they had a new LEGO Speed Champions Series 1970 Ferrari 512 M and I HAD to buy one to add to all the other models etc we have in our collection. This kit has 291 pieces and has the body molded in iconic Italian Red for Ferrari and comes with race livery as #4 with gold wheels.
Below are some pictures of assembling the Ferrari. They give you a couple of bags of parts and a sticker sheet with a 102 page instruction manual, that can be a bit tricky, but not real difficult as this kit is for 8 year old an up,so hopefully us old guys can do them….I think this Ferrari turned out great and would certainly recommend these to any model builder and race enthusiasts who do collect kits.
