IMSA has a new class this year for it’s race season. GTD (Pro) will take the place of the last number of years “factory supported” GT Class which was GTLM. With the combination of finally getting together with the FIA to have a fairly common set of tech rules for GT3 spec cars for racing both here in the United States and abroad for the World Endurance Championship (WEC), this class will now feature more of the professional drivers in cars that can race in both series. For this years Rolex 24 at Daytona, there are a combined 25 cars entered in the GTD and GTD(Pro) Classes for running at the January 29-30 event. With all the classes running in IMSA including DPi, LMP2 and LMP3, there are a total of 61 entries for this years Rolex 24.
We are huge fans of the GT Classes and will be following those classes more closely, as usual, for the 2022 Season. For the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona include the following car count:
PORSCHE GT3 R 4 GTD (Pro) 2 GTD
CORVETTE C8 R 2 GTD (Pro)
LEXUS RC F 1 GTD (Pro) 1 GTD
MERCEDES AMG 1 GTD (Pro) 2 GTD
ASTON MARTIN Vantage 1 GTD (Pro) 2 GTD
BMW M4 2 GTD (Pro)
LAMBORGHINI Huracon 1 GTD (Pro) 3 GTD
FERRARI 488 GT3 1 GTD (Pro) 2 GTD
It is fantastic for Sports Car/Endurance Racing to see the commitment from these 8 great manufacturers for the IMSA Season. It is noteworthy to see a few more Ferrari’s back at Daytona, especially RISI Competitione, and also as we have mentioned in our other recent posts about the Corvette Racing Team sending the #4 Corvette C8R over to the WEC Series for 2022. We are sure this will be an exciting new race season for sports cars fans……..
UNTIL NEXT TIME……..TACH IT UP!!!
Last years CORVETTE RACING C8R #4 at Daytona in GTLM…..This years #4 will head to Europe for the WEC to represent the US on a World Stage. YES!!
WeatherTech will run 2 PORSCHE 911 GT3 R Cars in GTD (Pro) with returning #79 and now with a #97 car..
